Awesome growth in this collection! I think the patrons are just now getting into it. I still need to meet the Apple challenge. Downloading to Apple was unsuccessful in the past, but I hear that is truly a thing of the past. I will definitely be using the audio books to sweeten my commute to WPL from TO. Way to go on this project, Dean!

I think YouTube is the most stunning example of democratization of media – an open invitation to amateur and professional artists and journalists to participate and influence the information culture! Wow. No agent, required! And the world becomes your talent scout!! Personally I enjoyed visiting the Library web 2.0 clips. It was like attending a free conference. Language I took away with me? — “information culture”. New fact? — the age of the expert is over. Best clip? — “If I live to be 100″

Podcasts

I got into podcasts a couple of years ago. I love radio talk shows and have several I listen to on my xm satellite radio. I was a good exercise to revisit podcasts. Though I enjoy the medium, especially public radio (npr), I don’t go to the trouble to put the shows on a device so I can listen while on the move. ITunes makes subscription so easy! Project Reflections

I think I’ll just follow Elaine’s reflection prompts. …

~ My favourite discovery was wikidot.com. I actually used it to plan my daughter’s baby shower, collaborating on the website (alarue.wikidot.com) with two other people. It was a great tool and really kept the details and responsibilities up to date.

~ I was surprised to find myself playing online. I’m usually after information results when I use a computer. I found myself enjoying free creative time.

~ Likely I will continue to use Facebook. I’ve let my Facebook page lie dormant for a couple of years. I just discovered the Facebook widgit in my iPhoto. How easy to share some recent or event photos on my Facebook account as I upload from my camera. I will also continue my bookclub idea on Library Thing and use Wikidot for team planning.

~ My favourite aspect of this project is the self-directed learning structure. I kept to the timeline fairly well and think this is an important feature to keep the student moving! The assignments also had a nice work/play/rest balance keeping me encouraged and ready for the next e-hurdle.

Wikiworld

I did add a favourite book to the wpllearning wiki in addition to Dean’s wpl wiki. My biggest deal was to create my own wiki on wikidot.com to co-ordinate plans for my daughter’s upcoming baby shower. I’ve invited the other planners to the site. Let’s see if they agree to join and participate. Thanks, Dean, for getting me started. I can appreciate the potential for folks to collaborate on projects using wikis!

Well I’ve been catching up on quite a variety of news on Technorati. I see some similarity to Wikipedia in that tags are embedded in the articles to take the reader to sub-topics.

I read a post about social networking that reinforced what I mentioned in my last blog. Microsoft is working toward the integration of social networks in your Outlook inbox just as Yahoo and Google have with Flickr, Reader, Delicious, etc. It’s sort of like shopping at Costco, everything under one roof/login!

Bookmarking on Delicious

The ability to collate home and work bookmarks could be handy. So far, I’ve added bookmarks related to this project.

One thing I’m learning, on the side, is that Yahoo and Google have loads of social networking products under their umbrellas! As an individual user, I appreciate how this helps to minimalize the number of accounts required to access some of the products in this project.

In closing I thought I should post something truly delicious on my Delicious post!

I just can’t get into Twitter. I’ve had an account since I got curious about the Kindle (I reeeeeeeeeeally want one). I can see using Twitter for comments on particular products. I brought it into my Google Reader. Perhaps increased exposure = increased value. We’ll see. I welcome any recommendations that will help me find the wonder of Twitter.

I’ve just had a taste of Library Thing . I set up a group called The Blog Blog Sisterhood in hopes of establishing a book club in which members share views about titles in their personal libraries and post collections to share with other members. We’ll see!
